My Friend Grace
It has been brought to my attention that in the course of writing this blog, alarmingly little amount of space has been dedicated to my dear friend Grace. I’m hoping to rectify that situation right now. Grace is the youngest daughter of my friends John and Mary. An accomplished singer, actor and performer, she has managed to overcome the shyness that plagued her early years (yeah, right).
Back in March of 2007 I was able to travel back to Chicago and meet up with Grace and family and their new puppy Reese. As I recall, the day was a bit rainy and overcast. Chasing a puppy through the mud tends to leave ones shoes a bit messy and of course a bit of cleanup was needed. She and Audrey found an empty spot on the tennis court and seemed to manage however.
Grace has performed with the Chicago Childrens’ Choir in locations as varied as Park West with Umphrey’s McGee, Millenium Park, for Ronald McDonald House Charities, Irish American Heritage Center, Albany Peace Sculpture Park and Ravinia with the CSO.
She’s also been in several plays including The Music Man (my Dad’s favorite, by-the-way), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Oliver.
Back in May of this year, I traveled with Grace and family up to Door County. There was square dancing and X-Boxing and swimming and bowling and cold weather. Even so, it was a great time and very relaxing. A terrific kickoff to summer, made all the more fun because Grace kept us entertained.
At the end of the day, I realize what a poor job I’ve done in sharing my friend Grace with the world. In future I will endeavor to share more of our adventures and not be so selfish with our friendship. I’ll fight the urge to selfishly keep her to myself, her light should shine for all to see
